Antoinette Lattouf mocks ‘Boomers’ outraged by usual suspects cutting down Melbourne’s Myer Christmas windows
Axed ABC journalist Antoinette Lattouf has taken aim at Aussies outraged by the cancellation of the Myer Christmas window.
The department store opted for a scaled-down version of its traditional grand opening in Melbourne on Sunday after pro-Palestinian activists threatened to interrupt the unveiling in the days leading up to the event.
Protesters subsequently called off their disruptive plans, but a small handful still showed up this weekend as part of a ‘Morons 4 Palestine’ protest.
The demonstration struck a chord with Aussies, who described it as ‘disappointing’ as protesters interrupted a 70-year-old tradition.
Lattouf mocked families outraged by the protest in a scathing post on social media platform X.
“Love seeing Boomers circling the Myer Christmas show,” she wrote.
‘Leave children alone!’ “Protesters are ruining our way of life!” “We can’t even celebrate Christmas and Jesus!” Um…where was Jesus born? Which children’s lives are actually being ruined?’
The small pro-Palestine demonstration was organized by an activist who goes by the pseudonym Amy Settal.

She announced her determination to hold a rally after organizers announced the much larger protest would not go ahead.
“The planned disruptions at the Myer windows may have been cancelled, but we will still be there,” she said.
‘Take your bubbly and head to Bourke St shopping center now!!’ she said.
A small handful of protesters heeded Ms. Settal’s call and showed up on Sunday.
They were heard chanting slogans, including “the bombs are falling while you’re shopping,” as they blew bubbles down the street.
One of them wore clown face paint and the organizer, Settal, proudly displayed a “Morons 4 Palestine” sign.
They did not stop Australian families from visiting Myer for the Christmas unveiling, which was guarded by a line of police.
On Monday, Ms Settal told Daily Mail Australia it was the police who intimidated, not the protesters.
‘The children who visited Myer’s windows were more afraid of the huge queue of police than eight individuals blowing bubbles and chanting.’
When asked why she adopted a pseudonym, Settal said, “I would prefer if you didn’t know my name at all, not because I’m trying to hide it, but because it doesn’t matter.”
“What matters is Palestine, and Sudan, and Congo, and the First Nations of this stolen, violently colonized continent.”
Settal insisted she used a pseudonym for her own safety and that her Instagram was flooded with Islamophobic and violent messages.
One mother at the Myer windows said the protesters were ‘disappointing’, while another mother claimed they had not ruined the Christmas spirit.
The ‘Morons 4 Palestine’ protest takes its name from comments made by Prime Minister Jacinta Allan earlier this week when she called the protesters idiots.

Lattouf took to social media on Sunday to mock the outrage over the canceled event
Lattouf was fired by the ABC in December 2023 over her reporting on the war in Gaza.
The 40-year-old was taken off air just three days into her week-long stint as a fill-in for ABC Radio after she reposted a Human Rights Watch video about the use of famine as a tool of war in Gaza.
She launched legal action against the ABC at the Fair Work Commission, claiming the decision was political, based on her position on Palestine and her Lebanese heritage.
Lattouf’s legal team argued that the ABC had breached the disciplinary policy in the enterprise agreement by dismissing her.
The ABC claimed she breached the organisation’s social media policy around impartiality and that she was not actually dismissed because she was paid for the full week.
However, the Fair Work Commission ruled in June that Lattouf had indeed been dismissed by the national broadcaster.
She is now filing a wrongful termination lawsuit in federal court.
The ABC’s total legal costs in the case against Lattouf are still unknown.
