‘Propaganda tool’: Tamil Nadu CM targets LIC over ‘imposition’ of Hindi on website, insurer blames technical glitch | India News – Times of India
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday criticized the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) for the recent switch to Hindi on its website, alleging that it has become a propaganda tool. He further said that this represents a strong imposition of cultural and linguistic elements, ignoring the diverse nature of India.
“The LIC website has been reduced to a propaganda tool for Hindi imposition. Even the option to select English is displayed in Hindi!” Stalin posted on X and shared a screenshot of an LIC webpage with Hindi content.
“LIC grew with the protection of all Indians. How dare it betray the majority of its contributors? We demand an immediate reversal of this language tyranny. #StopHindiImposition,” he added.
Moreover, PMK founder Dr. S. Ramadoss, an ally of the BJP, this was an imposition of Hindi on speakers of other languages and this had to be condemned.

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami also criticized LIC and stated that the updated website is not accessible to non-Hindi speakers.
He said the Hindi language selection option makes navigation impossible for non-Hindi users and criticized the central government’s continued Hindi promotional efforts.
He added that the imposition of languages is inappropriate in the multilingual, multicultural context of India. He urged the Center to make English the default website language and stop promotional activities in Hindi.
Meanwhile, LIC said in response that the company website was not shuffling the language page due to a technical issue.
“Our company website did not shuffle the language page due to a technical issue. The issue has now been resolved and the website is available in English/Hindi language. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted,” LIC said in a statement on .
