Radio shock as major star is removed from popular Triple M breakfast show

According to The, Mark ‘MG’ Geyer has been sensationally fired by Triple M Daily Telegraph.

The NSW State of Origin legend and breakfast show co-host was reportedly told the news by his ‘Melbourne boss’, who traveled to Sydney to deliver it in person.

Geyer was missing from this morning’s show and his co-hosts Mick Molloy, Cat Lynch and Natarsha Belling made no mention of his absence.

Southern Cross Austereo announced two weeks ago that Molloy would return to Melbourne to host the city’s breakfast show in 2025.

However, plans for the 56-year-old Geyer have not been announced by the network.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Southern Cross Austereo for comment.

Geyer is a former football star who played in the 1980s and 1990s before retiring at the end of the 2000 season.

He took part in Triple M’s breakfast show in Sydney in 2022, alongside Lawrence Mooney, Jess Eva and Chris Page.

After landing his role, Mark said: “I’m excited to set the alarm for the Triple M Sydney breakfast again, and I couldn’t think of a better team to get to work with!”

‘Lawrence makes me smile every morning. Jess is her own unique brand of hilarity and Pagey and I go way back. Bring on 2022!’

In 2020, Geyer’s daughter made headlines when she received $125,000 for damages for false claims about a leaked sex tape.

Montanna Geyer sued Fouad Ghosn in the NSW District Court over a March 2019 post that identified her as “the bird” in an intimate video illegally filmed by Tyrone May’s Penrith Panthers.

While the offending image and text were removed within days, Mr. Ghosn used every request to apologize and retract the false claim to make “further defamatory and insulting comments in the most public way he could,” namely the page followed by 300,000 Facebook accounts. .

Geyer and his son Logan also gave testimony about her distress and their efforts to identify the publisher of the message.

Earlier this month, Triple M saw a huge shake-up within the network, with Marty Sheargold stepping into a new role after leaving the breakfast spot in July.

Sheargold, 53, will expand his national Marty Sheargold Show to the drive shift in Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

The show currently airs nationally Monday through Friday from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Listeners in these regions can now enjoy an additional two hours of the popular comedian show from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

“I look forward to returning to the Drive shift for NSW and Queensland listeners in 2025 and giving them the extended version of the show,” Sheargold said in a statement.

‘The commute is a time to unwind and end the day with a chat and a laugh, and that’s exactly what I want to achieve.’

Sheargold’s shift to drive means a large number of local shows will be axed in 2025.

The Rush Hour, starring Leisel Jones, Liam Flanagan and Ben Dobbin, which airs in Queensland, will not return next year.

Similarly, NSW’s Rush Hour starring Gus Worland and Jude Bolton will also be axed.

The Adelaide and Perth Rush Hour teams will also not return in 2025.

The Rush Hour team of James Brayshaw and Billy Brownless, currently heard in Melbourne and Tasmania, will now also be broadcast in South and Western Australia, as well as on some regional Triple M stations in the southern states.

Liesel Jones took to Instagram to share the news with her fans, posting a photo of the on-air trio.

“Well it was fun while it lasted,” she wrote.

‘Sad news today that @triplem_rushhour with Leisel Jones, Liam and Dobbo will not be happening in 2025.’

“I learned a lot on this job and enjoyed the fun,” the post continued.

“Our intention with this show was to always simplify the ride home, no matter what kind of day you’ve had.

Sheargold added that he was determined to continue the legacy of the local teams.

“I also wanted to thank the teams from Sydney, Brisbane/Gold Coast and Queensland,” he said.

‘[They are] shows that have all had great stints and been hugely entertaining. I am determined to continue their legacy.”

Currently heard in Melbourne and Tasmania, the Rush Hour team-up of Brayshaw and Brownless will now also air in South and Western Australia and on some regional Triple M stations in the southern states.
