Delhi HC stops trial against P. Chidambaram in Aircel-Maxis case | India News – Times of India
Judge Manoj Kumar Ohri’s order stayed the proceedings until the next hearing, scheduled for January 2025.
The former finance minister had filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the court’s decision to admit the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) complaint against him and his son, Karti Chidambaram, in the Aircel-Maxis case.
Chidambaram argued before the court that the special judge had taken cognizance of the complaint as there was no sanction for the prosecution of the former Union minister, who was a civil servant when the offense was allegedly committed.
However, ED argued that sanctions for prosecution were not necessary as the allegations relate to actions of Chidambaram unrelated to his official duties.
The case pertains to the alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board’s (FIPB) approval for the Aircel-Maxis deal when Chidambaram was the Union finance minister.
