A British caravan park holiday that’s fun AND chic (and free of fussy organized entertainment)
Caravan park holidays are a rite of passage for British children, but the traditional evening of organized fun can sometimes be a little off-putting for parents.
There are no such concerns for families checking in luxury glamping and caravan park Love2Stay in Shrewsbury. It has just enough activities to keep the kids busy without being overwhelming for the adults.
The site consists of 116 touring pitches, tents, barns and more than 20 different lodges.
As a family of four, we spent a week at the park’s premier Wren’s Nest hotel, complete with a walk-in closet, ensuite bathroom with shower, fully equipped kitchen, hot tub and fire pit.
Check-in is simple and once guests have their electronic gate pass, they can come and go as they please, while security at the main gate keeps an eye on the area in the evenings.

For those arriving with children who have been in a car, the large adventure playground directly behind reception is the perfect place to let off steam without any further hassle. Our little climbers were in heaven, while our three year old climbed the cargo ladder at high speed and refused to come down.
From there he had a beautiful view of the lake, where guests can participate in paddle boarding and kayaking. Life jackets and helmets are provided and the sessions are easy to book each morning for a small fee. It’s all a fairly uneventful affair unless you fall off the paddleboard or the kayak capsizes.
The special forest school offers stone painting sessions, while football camps take place on the nearby sports field. There is even a small cinema where a few films are shown every day.

Not that guests need much entertainment when they can opt for endless days at the ‘beach’ on sunnier days. Love2Stay has created a seaside atmosphere with a huge area covered in sand next to a heated children’s pool.
For those who want a more energetic swim, there is a natural outdoor pool to explore. The fresh water was breathtaking, but once you regulate your breathing, it is quite pleasant. And there are hot tubs to warm up in afterwards.
In the evenings, special pizza ovens and barbecues can be rented, which provide a pleasant change from cooking in the holiday home.
To get rid of all the pampering, there is a state-of-the-art gym on site and an assault course, which resembles a Spartan competition.
If the typically unpredictable British meteorological conditions make the beach and the site’s other outdoor offerings less attractive, there are plenty of all-weather offerings in surrounding Shropshire.

The Ironbridge Valley of Invention has 10 fascinating museums Blists Hill Victorian town a special highlight. Visitors can sing along in the pub’s music hall or enjoy fresh fish and chips, traditionally cooked in beef drippings (vegan options are available). Our toddler was quite taken with the traditional Victorian carousel.
The Severn Valley Railway Engine Housenext to Highley station, is well worth an afternoon visit. Jumping on the Severn Valley Railway at Bridgnorth it is just two stops away on the vintage steam train.
The children were excited and compared it to the Polar Express. Although, given the sweltering heat of the day, the other passengers must have found our rendition of Tom Hanks’ Hot Chocolate a little out of place.
Park Hall The countryside experience should also not be missed. Children can have fun on the bouncy castle and play softly, pet rabbits and guinea pigs and meet the residents’ mini pony. However, we skipped the pig race and rode the tractor train twice. It is truly a local gem.
And that includes the Love2Stay caravan park – a rite of passage that my children enjoy going through again and again.
