When the Kimpton Fitzroy opened in 1900, the hotel was also one of the first in the city who offered its own bathroom and electric lighting in every room – both characteristics of innovation at that time.

Much of his original character continues to exist today- from the complicated mosaic floor in the lobby to his legendary bronze dragon, Lucky George, who has been on the second floor for day one.

Commissioned by the doll, an identical dragon was placed on board the Titanic and eventually sank with the ship.

The legend wants you to rub Lucky George’s head and make a wish come to you.

The large entrance to the hotel still houses the original floors and marbled walls. In the entrance there is a complicated mosaic inspired by the zodiac with a focal point of a winking sun.

The floor contains the fascination of the Victorian era for astrology and mysticism.

As an addition to his historical sense, the home of Suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst was on the site where the Kimpton Fitzroy Hotel is now on the east side of Russell Square.
