A mum complained about the cost of groceries at Coles after comparing her store to Aldi… but not everyone is on her side after noticing a small detail

A mother has caused division among Australians after she complained about the cost of groceries at Coles and compared it to Aldi.

Melbourne mum Alondra Gataé expressed her frustration on TikTok, saying she spent $72 on eight items at Coles.

In her video, Ms. Gataé claims she bought a full cart of groceries at Aldi for an extra $100.

Social media users were mixed, with some criticizing Ms Gataé, saying it was an unfair comparison because she bought brands at Coles that were normally more expensive.

Ms Gataé showed off the eight products she had bought at Coles and then the shopping trolley full of her purchases at Aldi.

The Coles items include deodorant, protein pizzas, frozen dessert sticks, cottage cheese, a shower mitt, an avocado and two cartons of free-range eggs.

Mrs. Gataé showed both receipts and compared the huge difference.

“Somebody make it make sense,” she said.

“Make it clear that an extra hundred dollars, plus or minus, is the equivalent of a full cart of food for two weeks from Aldi. Coles, you are worthless.”

Some social media users criticized Ms Gataé, saying she was making an unfair comparison.

“If you want to save money, why did you spend $25 on two cartons of eggs?” one of them replied.

Another agreed: ‘You can’t compare when you buy the super expensive eggs versus the store brand eggs.

‘Even Aldi sells organic eggs. Buy the no name eggs and compare.’

‘Look at the stuff you brought from Coles… now go buy that stuff somewhere else where the cost will be the same… stop lying,’ wrote another.

“Buy the SAME items in every store otherwise it’s not a fair comparison,” wrote a fourth.

Others were quick to express sympathy for Ms. Gataé.

‘Coles and Woolies are absolute criminal thieves… they claim Aldi isn’t as cheap as it used to be… I miss Aldi in Tasmania terribly,’ wrote one person.

“Everyone should stop shopping at Woolworths and Coles for a month,” wrote another.

One added: ‘Clearly you shouldn’t shop there.’

Ms Gataé called some of the reactions to the criticism ‘blood-curdlingly crazy’.

“Eight items, no matter what they were from Coles, shouldn’t cost you $72,” she said.

She says she only shops at Coles because she wants to buy products she can’t get at Aldi.

“Otherwise I wouldn’t set foot in that place.”

In her video, Ms Gataé complained that just eight items at Coles cost her $72, while she bought a full cart of groceries for $100 more at the German competitor.

A Coles spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia they encouraged customers to do their own price comparisons.

“We are always working hard to deliver value to our customers, especially with cost of living pressures including higher mortgages and rents, energy and fuel,” she said.

‘We know customers are always looking for good value for money and Coles prices are designed to meet this.

‘We offer great value, from thousands of weekly deals to long-term Down Down promotions, giving our customers price certainty on specific products over an extended period of time.

‘All our current prices are clearly visible on our website, in our app and in the store. We know that customers look at these every day.

‘We are happy for our customers to do their own price comparisons; however, in the case of this video, it is unclear whether comparable products are being compared.’
