- DFC Intelligence estimates that the Nintendo Switch 2 could sell 16 million units before the end of the year
- This would make the switch 2 the “fastest selling console ever” to catch up with the switch, PS4 and Wii
- It also predicts 100 million units that are sold by the end of 2029
The Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to sell 16 million units by the end of 2025 and 100 million units by the end of 2029.
That is according to the industrial analistic company DFC -Intelligencethat has just published his new prediction report, which now seems to have been removed, for the Nintendo switch prior to the launch of the console next month (via Game spot).
Initially, the company estimated that the Switch 2 would sell 15 million by the end of the year, but it has now increased its prediction to 16 million.
However, it is of the opinion that the console could sell up to 20 million “if production could meet the demand”, but said that this is “unlikely” because of the “conservative approach to inventory” of Nintendo.
This would make the Switch 2 the “fastest selling console ever” and beat the switch, PS4 and Wii, which lasted a year to reach the milestone. Nintendo originally predicted 10 million sales for the original switch, but the expectations were exceeded when it reached 15 million.
Towards the end of 2025, 16 million units is a daring prediction, but DFC intelligence is also of the opinion that the Switch 2 can sell more than 100 million units by the end of 2029.
“The Switch 2, along with the growth of mobile PC game devices, defines the landscape of the video game industry again,” said it. “DFC predicts that by the end of 2029 the Switch 2 will have sold more than 100 million units, making it the leading console system with a wide margin.”
The Nintendo Switch was launched in 2017 and hit 100 million units that were sold by 2022. If the Switch 2 reaches that milestone before the end of 2029, it could surpass the original with a large margin.
Nintendo himself predicts to sell 15 million units for the tax year. When asked by investors why the sales forecast is so low, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said that the high costs of the console are a key factor in his predictions, but believes that the backward compatibility and software bundles of the console will increase the sale for the end of the first tax year.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is launched worldwide on June 5, 2025, for $ 449.99 / £ 395.99. UK pre-orders And Our pre-orders Are now live.
