According to the latest rumors, the PS5 Pro could have 2TB of storage and run much quieter and cooler
According to a new rumor, the PS5 Pro could come with 2TB of storage and be much quieter and cooler than the base model.
If reported by Wccftechin the last Podcast about broken silicon Yesterday (August 27, 2024), insider Moore’s Law is Dead claims: “I was shown a PS5 Pro dev kit”.
He goes on to say that “it has two terabytes of storage — but I can’t promise that’s going to be at retail,” — which makes sense given that there’s no way to know for sure that whatever’s on a dev kit will actually make it into the consumer product, but this is a promising whisper of a standard spec. It would also tie in rather handily with Microsoft launching a 2TB Xbox Series X later this year.
He went on to describe a key feature of the dev kit in particular, namely that it had “the same two-prong power connector as the PS5.”
This suggests that the PS5 Pro won’t need much more power to run, and shouldn’t be thirstier than its predecessor if it’s content with the same amount of juice. Moore’s Law then adds his own take on this bit, saying that he thinks it’s “likely to be a very quiet and cool running machine”.
We’d be very happy to see both of these features on a PS5 Pro. For one, 2TB of storage would undoubtedly give players a lot more breathing room to store many more games natively without having to rely on external resources – though we don’t know how much additional storage a ‘PS5 Pro improvement’ of existing and future games might require. And on the latter point, given that the PS5 is known for blowing hard with its large fan, any reduction in noise and temperatures is always going to be welcome.
This isn’t the only PS5 Pro rumor doing the rounds at the moment. Other insiders and commentators have also weighed in on whether the console will still be released this year, and what its potential price will be.
We would like to add that the PS5 Pro has not been officially announced yet and this information is still rumored and unconfirmed at this time. We will keep you updated on everything related to the PlayStation 5 Pro, so stay tuned for more information!
