Activist who uses a wheelchair accuses a doctor or ‘pity with’ hair because she has a handicap

An influencer who uses a wheelchair has publicly criticized a doctor to ‘compete with her as a disabled person.
Sophie Bradbury-Cox, who has nearly 37,000 followers on Instagram, posted the ‘annoying’ exchange with a doctor who took place during the weekend.
The mother of one, from Northamptonshire, was born with spinal muscle atrophy (SMA), a genetic disorder that ensures that certain muscles become weak and waste.
Known as Fashion Bellee Online, where she makes content about ‘Disabled fashion, travel and Disney’, Sophie cannot walk or stand as a result of her SMA.
She uses a wheelchair full -time and spoke earlier The I Can’t Stand Podcast About what the part of her identity is.
In one after Sophie, published on Wednesday, called Sophie the ‘Ableism’ of the doctor with whom she spoke with regard to a repeat recipe.
She explained: “I spoke with a doctor on the phone at the weekend about getting a repeat recipe and I happened to mention that I was a wheelchair user.”
According to Sophie, when she told the doctor that she was using a wheelchair, he asked, “What do you have?”

The doctor replied, “Oh, I am sorry to hear, your life must be very difficult.”
Stays behind, Sophie added: ‘No. Sometimes access etc. can be frustrating, but I live my life as complete as I can! ‘
In response, he said: “It’s great to hear that you are positive about it.”
Angry and shocked by the exchange, the content -maker described the behavior of the doctor as ‘pity’.
They released her frustration on Instagram and wrote: ‘Why do we need pity as a disabled people?! And also from a doctor? It’s just so annoying! ‘
In the caption to her post, she went out and added: ‘I was GoBsmacked !! I just didn’t expect this conversation with a doctor.
“Although I think nothing should shock me when it comes to competence and handicap !!”
Viewers quickly commented on Sophie’s message and often shared similar experiences, but not everyone was sympathetic – and some people were openly condescending.

She saw it as an example of ‘competence’ and explained that it left her ‘goobsmacked’
One person suggested that the influencer was small and wrote: “You are lucky that you could actually talk to them, especially during the weekend.”
While another stood on it: ‘It is not compassion. It’s support. ‘
Other people with disabilities reported a similar treatment in which one person explained: ‘I had that from an A&E nurse [and it] Immediately get rid of her!

Someone else added: ‘My daughter had Down’s syndrome and we have heard’ sorry ‘too often (especially from medical professionals).

While a third party reported a frustrating experience, writing: ‘Yes, ridiculous! A doctor recently suggested that I record a hobby such as sewing … (I have full muscle waste/paralysis in my hands) … ‘
A fourth person regretted: ‘I was a bit shocked that you were shocked.

A fifth stated: ‘That is absolutely absurd! Especially from a doctor. ‘
Yet an Instagrammer did not agree with Sophie who focused on the doctor for what she described as ‘pity’ behavior.
They explained: ‘Sorry. I am disabled, but I hardly hear anyone recognizing how difficult it is.
“I wanted to do what. But we can’t allow it, simply because most people use it. ‘
