Ahead of Wayanad poll, EC seizes food packets with photos of Priyanka and Rahul
A political controversy has broken out in Wayanad ahead of the Lok Sabha by-elections after around 30 food packets containing photographs of Congress leaders were seized by the Election Commission flying squad and police at Tholpetty in the district on Thursday.
The kits, containing tea dust, sugar, rice and other grocery items, and with images of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddharamaiah and Deputy CMD K Shivakumar, were seized from a flour mill near the residence of a local resident. Congress leader, according to sources.
The ruling Left has alleged that the kits have been brought to be distributed to voters in a bid to sway them in favor of Congress in the November 13 by-poll.
The kit is labeled for distribution to landslide victims, sources said.
However, the Congress said these are the same kits that were earlier brought in for distribution to the survivors of the July 30 Wayanad landslide disaster.
A procedure is currently underway, an official source said.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi is the UDF candidate for the Wayanad elections on November 13, where she will contest against CPI candidate senior leader Sathyan Mokeri and BJP candidate Navya Haridas.
