Ajit Pawar drags sick mother into politics: Supriya Sule
PUNE: NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule on Tuesday indicated that her cousin and Maharashtra deputy CM Ajit Pawar dragged his mother, who is undergoing medical treatment, into politics by forcing her to attend his concluding election rally in Baramati. Ajit Pawar’s brother Shrinivas Pawar alleged that their mother, Asha Pawar, was brought to Baramati from Mumbai after she stopped her medical treatment.
The octogenarian attended Ajit Pawar’s rally at the mission premises in Baramati on Monday, the last day of his campaign for the November 20 Assembly elections in Maharashtra.
Notably, NCP leader Ajit Pawar is engaged in a riveting battle against his cousin Yugendra Pawar of NCP (SP), who is strongly supported by Sharad Pawar.
Shrinivas Pawar, a loyalist of Sharad Pawar, claimed that their mother had told him that she would not attend Ajit Pawar’s meeting.
“I am surprised to see our Khaki (Asha Anantrao Pawar) attending the meeting as she was never into politics. I feel she has nothing to do with our politics. Why should she be dragged into politics? ” Sule asked.
Asha Pawar has never attended any NCP meeting in the past, she said.
“I saw her attending the meeting wearing a mask. I feel restless as she is undergoing medical treatment,” the Baramati MP added.
Shirnivas Pawar, father of Yugendra, alleged that Asha Pawar was recently brought to Baramati from Mumbai by stopping her medical treatment.
“I met her a day before the meeting (Ajit Pawar) and asked if she would like to attend the event. She replied in the negative and said she could not walk even two steps,” Shrinivas Pawar alleged.
My mother will return to Mumbai after the election results are out (on November 23) and continue her treatment, he added.
According to Shrinivas, Asha Pawar has already exercised her franchise through the ‘vote from home’ facility for voters above 85.
“I also jokingly asked her who she voted for, but she preferred to keep it a secret. I even told her that maybe she made the right decision (on who to vote for) as a mother never makes a wrong decision,” added he added.
Jay Pawar, son of Ajit Pawar, claimed that his grandmother herself decided to attend the meeting.
