Akhilesh Yadav visits JPNIC at night and slams the government for blocking access with tin sheets
LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav has been reached Jayaprakash Narayan International Center on Thursday evening and slammed the Yogi Adityanath government for apparently blocking the main gate behind tin sheets to prevent entry. It is the socialist leader’s birthday on October 11.
Last year, Yadav had to climb over the gate of JPNIC in Gomti Nagar to hurl a statue of Jai Prakash Narayan into the premises.
“This JPNIC, the museum of socialists, the statue of Jayaprakash Narayan and there are things in it about how we can understand socialism,” Akhilesh Yadav told reporters outside the Centre.
‘What is the government hiding by building these tin sheds? Is it possible that they are getting ready to sell it, or give it to someone?’ he added.
According to a video shared online, on reaching the building, Yadav asked a painter to write ‘Samajwadi Party Zindabad’ on the tin plates.
Asked whether he would come to the center tomorrow to pay his tribute to the Distress Crusader, Yadav said, “We will decide the program tomorrow. How long will they keep it hidden behind tin sheds.’
Later in a post on
“BJP harbors ill will and enmity against every freedom fighter like Jayaprakash Narayan ji, who took part in the country’s freedom struggle.
“It is the blame within the BJP, whose members did not participate in the country’s freedom struggle, that does not allow them to pay tribute to the revolutionaries even on their birth anniversaries. Reprehensible!” he said.
Earlier in the day, the Samajwadi Party took to social media to share a video of some workers erecting tin plates in front of the main gate of the JPNIC and condemned the action.
“The useless BJP government is continuously attacking democracy!” said a message on X.
The party termed the ban as an example of “dirty politics” by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
“This anti-people government has insulted big men by ruining the development work like JPNIC built in Lucknow. Socialists will not bow to these dictators!” it said.
Lucknow Police announced traffic restrictions around the building on Friday.
The JPNIC was inaugurated by Yadav in 2016 during his tenure as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.
However, work on the building was stopped after BJP came to power in the state in 2017.
The building houses, among other things, the Jayaprakash Narayan Interpretation Center, a museum.
