Aldi customers rave about ‘delicious’ £3.99 wine that tastes ‘more expensive’
WINE fans take note! Aldi has slashed the price of one of its delicious white wines, just in time for the sunny weather.
Savvy shoppers on social media are raving about the taste of the discounted drink, but if you want a bottle, you’ll have to be quick.
Like the weather The expectation is that things will improve after weeks of rain. The budget supermarket has chosen Baron Amarillo Rueda Verdejo as wine of the week.
The white wine previously cost £5.99, but is now available for just £3.99.
Savvy shoppers signed up to a popular money-saving Facebook group and were excited about the offer, which ends on Sunday, July 21.
One of them shared the deal with the group and said, “Has anyone tried this? Is it good?”
Wine lovers seem to agree that budget wine is a good choice, especially if you like dry wine.
“It’s really delicious, a bit dry, like Pinot,” someone said.
A second simply described the drink as “banging”, while another wrote: “I had this last night! Was very tasty.”
In another post in the same group, someone else indicated that the wine is fine for the price.
They said: “It’s lovely, not too sweet and not too dry either! Definitely worth the £3.99.”
“I usually drink Sauvignon Blanc and I am very pleased with this one!”
Aldi’s wine expert and mistress of wine, Sam Caporn, previously suggested that the wine is also great for Sauvignon Blanc lovers.
The Verdejo is a grape variety from the Rueda region in Spain, named after the green (verde) color of the fruit. According to the expert, the wine is the new star of the wine world.
“Sometimes we can get into a wine rut, reaching for the same bottle over and over again. For anyone looking for something different this summer, Verdejo is a great alternative to Sauvignon Blanc because they share many common characteristics,” she said.
“It is one of the most widely planted grape varieties in Spain, with citrus notes, lime and grapefruit, balanced by a delicious juicy acidity.
“It pairs beautifully with chicken, fish, seafood and salad, making it the ideal summer go-to. If you’re tired of the same old Sauvignon Blanc, give Aldi’s Verdejo a try – it’s got the flavour and at just over a fiver, it’s great value. You won’t be disappointed!”
The wine was also judged and approved by the supermarket’s panel of Wine Club members, who were appointed after a search for thirty enthusiasts who wanted to taste, test and review Aldi’s range of wines.
The Baron Amarillo Rueda Verdejo was a firm favourite amongst the panel, with one member describing it as “one to watch” and describing it as “sweet yet dry with an amazing lightness that is unexpected!”
Another described it as “the perfect compromise between Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio!”“
