Aldi releases brand new Whispering Angel dup and shoppers already want 10 bottles
WHEN Adele said it “turned her into a barking dog”, we all knew Whispering Angel was a rosé worth drinking.
But with a magnum of this designer tipple costing £42, it’s not a bottle we’d be picking up for our Friday night drinks every week.
Whispering Angel is the flagship wine of Château d’Esclans, a vineyard north of Saint Tropez, France.
After becoming a huge hit in the market, it became a favorite among celebrities, including the Beckhams.
The hype is due to the beautiful bottle, the Instagram-worthy appearance and the champagne-like branding.
Many sommeliers are convinced that Whispering Angel has made rosé popular again.
But where can you go if you can’t afford to pay £22 for a 75cl bottle of rosé or £42 for a magnum, but still want that luxury experience?
Fortunately, we can get Chassaux et Fils Sainte Victoire Provence Rosé at Aldi.
The budget supermarket’s new blushing drink is an imitation of the posh wine and costs just £12.49.
“We have something that will make you happy,” Aldi’s social media team shared on Instagram.
“Our new Sainte Victoire Provence Rosé is the perfect summer drink – just chill out and enjoy!”
Wine lovers flocked to the reactions and were enthusiastic: the new drink had a similar atmosphere to Whispering Angel.
“I would like 10 bottles,” said one.
Another said they “bet it tastes the same” as its expensive inspiration.
There was a period when rosé was considered inferior to the red and white varieties.
But its popularity has grown dramatically over the past five years, thanks in part to Whispering Angel.

And the hype will continue for a while.
According to market analyst GlobalData, global rosé consumption is expected to rise from 2.23 billion liters in 2020 to 2.63 billion in 2025.
However, it’s not just Aldi’s rosé that has Brits salivating over it.
The German supermarket’s own-brand gin – which costs half that of its biggest competitors – has been named “one of the best in the world”.
Haysmith’s, Aldi’s own brand, won gold at the Spirits Business Global Gin Masters, beating all its main competitors.
Haysmith’s gin range includes Seville Orange & Persian Lime Gin (£14.99), London Dry Gin (£15.99) and Haysmith’s Premium Sloe Gin (£14.99), all of which won top honours at the ceremony.
