The 28-year-old star of the Chip Ganassi-Raceteam won the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, despite the leading of only 14 laps. Palou even took the lead in round 187.
Of course Palou led when it counted, and now the Barcelona Native has won five of the six races to start the IndyCar series 2025. The best of all, he finally won a race on an oval track.
“There were a few moments when I felt really good in the race, but in the end I didn’t know if I could pass Marcus,” Palou told Fox Sports of Marcus Ericsson in Sweden, who finished second.
After talking to Fox, Palou fulfilled his duty as the Indy 500 winner by enjoying a glass bottle of milk, per tradition. He even shared a little with Vrouw Esther, who held their young daughter.
In the meantime, Ericsson climbed his car and pressed his hands against his face at the disappointment of the coming oh so close to a second victory of Indianapolis 500.

It was another race in the Brickyard for much of the day. Ryan Hunter-Rey was the leader halfway when he was looking for a second victory in ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing’.
Hunter-Rey, in a one-off entry for Drr-Cusick Motorsports, won the Indy 500 in 2014 as a driver for Andretti Global. He led on Sunday with 100 laps for a race that was first briefly delayed by rain and was then beaten with a result of weird incidents.

The Indianapolis 500 sold its grandstands for the first time in almost a decade, and the local TV -Black -out that has been in place since 1951 has been lifted, so that fans in Central Indiana can view the race live.
Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles said on Monday that although the approximately 230,000 stand chairs were sold out, general admission tickets for access were still available. He expects a crowd of around 350,000 racing fans – or about 1 for every 1,000 people who live in the US – would be on the track on Sunday for the 109th running of ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing’.
“From our longest printed ticket holders who have been coming to the racing capital of the world for generations, new fans who have recently fallen in love with this iconic event, everyone contributed to this exciting and historic moment,” Boles wrote in a letter to fans. “I am grateful for the support and passion you have for this race and this place.”

The lifting of the local TV -Black -out was good news for Fox, which will broadcast the race for the first time, as well as NBA fans in Central Indiana. Normally the race would be broadcast locally after the conclusion on Sunday evening, creating a conflict with the pacers that organize the Knicks in game 3 of their Eastern Conference final the same night.
“Fox Sports is completely on Indycar, and this is an incredible achievement to celebrate with our first Indy 500 broadcast,” said Fox Sports Chief Executive Eric Shanks. “As a lifelong fan, I am also personally happy to see the stands on the racing day and look forward to broadcasting the Race Live in Central Indiana.”
The first sale since the 100th Loop in 2016 was on the hands of Boles who told fans at the end of last week that there were little grandstand tickets available.
