‘Alien: Romulus’ is out. Here’s how to stream all the original Alien movies

Alien: Romulus released on August 16, bringing audiences back to the universe Ridley Scott built. It’s been 45 years since Scott’s original Alien film kicked off the enduring franchise, and a recap of the various sequels and prequels is definitely in order. Whether you’re putting together a marathon or revisiting the franchise for the first time, take note: every Alien film is available to stream now.

Alien hit theaters in 1979 and is led by Sigourney Weaver in her star-making role as Ellen Ripley. The film follows the crew of the Nostromo, a commercial spaceship, as they investigate a distress call in space. They discover an aggressive alien species rampaging on a dead spaceship, turning their rescue mission into a fight for survival.

While Fede Álvarez’s Alien: Romulus is a standalone story set between the events of Alien and Aliens , you might be wondering how to watch the Alien films. The overall storyline is all over the place, with stories set in both the past and the future. You can watch the Alien franchise in chronological order, with the prequels coming first, or in order of release date. I recommend starting with the 1979 original and working your way in theatrical release order. And if you want to understand Alien: Romulus further, you can trim the proverbial fat from the franchise and limit your movie marathon to three of the six entries: Alien, Aliens, and Prometheus.

Ready to go on the express lift straight to hell? Here’s how to stream all the Alien movies.
