All four rumored Google Pixel 9 models have been photographed by a regulatory agency
There’s still almost a month until the Google Pixel 9 line likely launches, but you can already get a somewhat official look at all four expected models: the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold (thought to be the launch name of the Pixel Fold 2).
This is thanks to the NCC (a Taiwanese regulatory body), which – through Android Authority – has published photos of all four of these devices.
Since this is an official government agency, it is likely that the images and associated details are accurate. However, things may change until Google announces them.
Regardless, the images – some of which you can see above – line up with previous leaks, which showed a new camera block design for the non-foldable devices, which doesn’t extend all the way to the edges of the rear.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold sees bigger changes, with a square camera block on the rear, while the selfie camera for the foldable display has been moved to a punch-hole cutout, rather than being embedded in the bezel as on the original Google Pixel Fold.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s bezels also appear to be smaller than its predecessor. The crease also appears to be smaller. Google’s second foldable could therefore be a significant visual improvement over the first.
From design to battery
In addition to the photos, the NCC also released the battery capacities of the four phones. The Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro have a 4,558mAh battery, the Pixel 9 Pro XL has a 4,942mAh battery and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a 4,560mAh battery.
These are likely to be the nominal capacities (which is the minimum you can expect) rather than typical capacities (which is what companies often advertise). For comparison, the Pixel 8 has a nominal capacity of 4,485mAh and a typical capacity of 4,575mAh, the Pixel 8 Pro has a nominal capacity of 4,950mAh and a typical capacity of 5,050mAh, and the Pixel Fold has a nominal capacity of 4,727mAh and a typical capacity of 4,821mAh.
Based on this, the Pixel 9 could have a slightly larger battery than its predecessor, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL could likely have a similar capacity to the Pixel 8 Pro (expecting it to be more comparable to it than it is to the Pixel 9 Pro). The Pixel 9 Pro Fold could also have a slightly smaller battery than the Pixel Fold.
Finally, the NCC tests reveal estimated charging speeds for the four phones. Unfortunately, these don’t reveal the maximum speeds on offer. But given that the Pixel 9 Pro XL hits 32.67W, it’s likely that it will officially support at least 35W charging, which would be slightly higher than the Pixel 8 Pro’s 30W.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold hits 20.25W here, but since Google has never provided specific information on the Pixel Fold’s maximum charging speed, we have no basis for comparison here.
The other phones are in line with their predecessors, suggesting the Pixel 9 could have an advertised 27W charging speed and the Pixel 9 Pro 30W.
We’ll know for sure soon, as the Pixel 9 series is expected to be unveiled on August 13.
