A mother burying her son has died again after her father suddenly fell asleep outside the chapel.

Amanda Adams-Bennett’s 8-year-old son Tommy passed away on July 2 and his entire family attended the funeral in Sydney just over a week later, on July 12.

At the end of the service, Tommy’s grandfather, Stan, lost consciousness as he left the chapel with his wife. He was rushed to Blacktown Hospital, where he died.

Mrs Adams-Bennett thought her father was initially ‘so overcome with grief’ that he fell.

He lived for his grandchildren [and] had such a great bond with Thomas,’ she said told 7News.

Tommy died after developing a highly aggressive form of childhood brain cancer called diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG). September 2023.

Mrs. Adams-Bennett has a GoFundMe for her ‘wonderful’ mother who now risks losing her home.

“I am doing what I can to raise money for my amazing mother so she can pay for her father’s funeral and other expenses/bills and keep her family home,” she wrote.

Mrs Adams-Bennett is trying to raise money for her 68-year-old mother, Lin, who she says is ‘too proud to ask for help herself’.

“Our family is going through the most unimaginable pain. Two beautiful people who we love dearly have left this earth far too soon,” Mrs. Adams-Bennett wrote.

‘[Mum] does not work, she is not currently claiming benefits from Centrelink and never has.

‘Unfortunately, not only does our family have to pay for the funeral, but I also discovered that my father still has a significant debt on the family home.

‘Mama doesn’t want to lose her house, it’s so special to her, [she] and dad lived there since they started dating.

“We will help her as much as we can, but we have just lost a child and now a father, and we are dealing with the rollercoaster of grief, anger, sadness and other emotions that come with such a tragic loss.”

Stan was a devoted grandfather and both he and Tommy were inseparable, Mrs Adams-Bennett said

Lin and Stan had been married for more than 47 years and Mrs. Adams-Bennett said her father was the ‘‘the most patient, kind, respectful and honest man I know’.

“I was so proud to call him Dad, and our boys their Dad,” she wrote.

Stan worked as a postman for 53 years and only recently retired, without really being able to enjoy it.

After he collapsed, others attending the funeral performed CPR until emergency services arrived.

When he arrived at the hospital, Stan had to remain in an incubator and a machine was needed to help him with chest compressions because his heart kept stopping beating.

He could not be resuscitated and died that same evening at 7:30 PM.
