The expected OTT release of Amaran, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi, has been postponed after its successful theatrical debut on October 31. Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and produced by Kamal Haasan under Raaj Kamal Films International, the biopic depicts the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan, an officer in the Indian Army who died during a counter-terrorism operation in 2014. Delay in streaming release on Netflix
Originally slated for an OTT premiere on Netflix after a 28-day window, Amaran will now reportedly debut on the streaming platform on December 11. report According to OTTPlay, industry sources suggest that the unexpected box office success has led to a strategic decision to extend the film’s theatrical presence for an additional week, with the aim of generating more revenue from movie ticket sales. This is the first time that a Tamil film’s digital release has been postponed for this reason, underscoring Amaran’s unique appeal among recent regional films.
Amaran’s performance beyond Tamil Nadu
Besides Tamil Nadu, Amaran has attracted large audiences in other south Indian states including Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. As of the second week, the film’s total earnings have crossed ₹200 crore and are expected to reach Rs. 300 crore marks before its theatrical run concluded. The film’s strong showing has even affected screen availability for other major releases in Tamil Nadu, especially Kanguva, Suriya’s much-awaited release, which is now facing lower screen count.
