Amazon is expanding its same-day drug delivery service to more cities by 2025

Amazon said Wednesday that it is expand its same-day drug delivery service by 2025.

The Amazon Pharmacy benefit, which allows people to have certain prescription medications delivered the same day they are ordered, is already available in Austin, Texas; Los Angeles; Miami; New York City; Phoenix; Seattle; Indianapolis; and Orlando, Florida. Same-day delivery will expand to Boston, Dallas, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, San Diego and more metro areas that the retail giant says it will announce in the coming months.

To achieve this, Amazon says it will open new pharmacies in same-day delivery locations and “leverage its extensive logistics network and advanced automation technology.” The company estimates that by the end of the year, 45% of its Amazon Pharmacy customers in the US will be eligible for same-day medication delivery.

Medicine delivery services are important options for people with limited mobility or for those who have difficulty picking up their prescriptions from a physical pharmacy. Amazon’s medicine delivery service is just one of the steps the online retail giant is making in healthcare. Other medication services include RxPassa benefit for Prime members that costs $5 per month to get free access to certain generic prescription drugs, and an automatic coupon feature for Amazon Pharmacy that automatically applies discounts at checkout.

Amazon has also acquired its own telemedicine site, called One Medical. Prime members get a discount on this concierge-like medical service.

To use the Amazon Pharmacy service if you live in a city where Same day delivery is already possibleyou must order before 5:00 PM local time to receive your medication before 10:00 PM. The same-day delivery service is free on your first order of a new medication for both Prime and non-Prime members (no need to use Amazon pharmacy). From there you can set up auto-refill. If you don’t set up automatic refills, you’ll get future same-day refills for $3 for Prime members and $10 for non-Prime members.
