Amazon may soon launch ‘Tez’ Quick Commerce app for Blinkit rival Zepto
Amazon is reportedly gearing up to enter the fast-paced commerce sector in India. According to a report, Amazon India’s instant delivery service codenamed ‘Tez’ will be launched by the end of the year or early 2025. If the company enters the high-speed commerce market, it could compete with smaller companies like Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart and Zepto. Amazon is reportedly preparing dark stores and streamlining inventory units and logistics for Tez. The new service could initially focus on groceries and daily necessities.

Citing multiple sources familiar with the matter, The Economic Times reports that Amazon India is preparing to launch its express merchant delivery service, codenamed Tez, in late December or early next year.
The launch of Tez marks Amazon’s foray into the fast commerce segment. The e-commerce giant previously planned to roll out the service in the first quarter of next year, but had reportedly prepared its plans. The service is expected to start serving groceries and daily necessities in the coming weeks.
“Amazon wants to launch it in India sooner than the end of the first quarter. Fast trading is where all the action happens when you are a meaningful consumer internet platform. They are also following the same model as others: setting up dark stores, figuring out the details of stock units (SKUs) and categories, and setting up a logistics infrastructure,” said a person aware of the company’s plans to the publication.
The proposal will reportedly be discussed in the next monthly review, scheduled for the first week of December, ahead of Amazon’s annual Smbhav 2024 event, scheduled for December 9 to 10.
Amazon is said to be looking for employees for the new project and is working with logistics providers to enable fast delivery services. According to the report, the final name for the service has yet to be determined.
India’s fast commerce industry is growing rapidly, powered by players like Blinkit, Zepto and Swiggy Instamart. BB Now and Tata-owned Flipkart’s Minutes are also prominent players in this fast-growing market. Amazon’s arch-rival Flipkart also launched its express service last month.
