NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will kick off Birsa Munda’s 150th birth anniversary celebrations from a public outreach program in Jamui in Bihar on Friday, days ahead of the second phase of assembly elections on November 20 in the tribal hero’s home state of Jharkhand.
Munda’s birthday on November 15 is marked as Janjatiya Gaurav divas since 2021 to recognize the contributions of all tribal heroes and tribal communities, especially in India’s freedom struggle.
During the program in Jamui, which is part of the model code of conduct in force in Jharkhand that prevents announcements and launches, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate and lay foundation stone for development projects worth Rs 6,640 crore, focusing on infrastructure, healthcare, education and healthcare. livelihood generation in tribal areas.
Last year, Prime Minister Modi had visited Munda’s birthplace – Ulihatu village in Khunti in Jharkhand – and launched Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyay Maha Abhiyan for particularly vulnerable tribal communities and to initiate Viksit Bharat Abhiyan.
Meanwhile, Prez Droupadi Murmu in her message for Janjatiya Gaurav Divas said that she has noticed that a new awareness is being spread across the country about tribal pride and the ideals of the Constitution. “This awareness is converted into action. This spirit will become the foundation of the bright future of the country, including the tribal society,” she said.
Opportunities for economic development for tribal communities are increasing and the current government is continuing the journey of tribal development and welfare at a rapid pace, she added. “Our country will only be truly developed when our tribes are also developed. Rapid advancement of people from tribal communities is our national priority,” she said.
