Londoners left in hysterics as US students complain Soho has ‘90% men in bars’

Londoners left in hysterics when male US students complain there were ‘90% men in the bars’ on a night out in Soho

A naive college student from America and his friends made Londoners burst into laughter when they complained that they were in one of the capital’s gay hotspots.

Post on the social media forum Redditmany other users thought the comment was worthy of being placed in the esteemed “Reddit Hall of Fame.”

After visiting a bar in Soho, known for its vibrant nightlight and bustling gay community, the disgruntled drinker decided to share his discontent on the London subreddit.

He wrote: ‘Last night my friend and I experienced Soho, and we were not impressed.

The drinks were expensive (which is to be expected), but it didn’t help because every bar was 90 percent dudes. Also seemed to be an older crowd.

A student from America was mocked online for complaining on Reddit that there were “too many men” while drinking in Soho, apparently oblivious to the fact that it is home to one of the city’s largest gay communities (stock image)

“Lots of creepy guys too. Seemed like a center for tourists to drink? We’re students, by the way.’

The post was quickly picked up and flooded with comments, receiving nearly 3,000 upvotes.

Naturally, the Londoners were quick to kind-heartedly mock the American friends for their comments.

One person responded, “Hahaha. 90% dudes in a bar in Soho? Well, I would never…”

Londoners couldn’t resist teasing the American for moaning about too many men being in a gay part of town, but some offered helpful advice and a bit of a history lesson

“Did Judy Garland and Cher come out of the speakers?” joked a fifth follower, while another responded, “I think it was mostly Abba and Eurovision songs.”

Finally to spell it out for the students, someone else added, ‘oh dear… you walked into London’s gay district and complained it was all boys. Honey… oh honey.”

Since writing the post, the American man has edited his original post and added, “Oh god,” indicating that he now sees his mistake.

He added: “A friend said we should go there. I think we’ve been played. From what I gathered, there are non-gay bars.

“We were kind of on the gay street and the other bars around were nowhere to be found, so we just gave up. I guess we just weren’t walking around enough.’

People couldn’t believe seeing Pride flags outside pubs like the Admiral Duncan didn’t betray it yet

A haven for gay Londoners for hundreds of years, Soho and the West End are packed with incredible and inclusive places to eat, drink and have fun.

It is one of London’s most popular places to visit for locals and tourists alike, with places like the ever-popular GAY club or The Admiral Duncan pub.

“Someone needs to pin OP’s post. This is hall of fame material,” another user added.

Someone else gushed, “This post really made my day. Thank you very much, OP.’

Another Redditer joked, “Were there colorful banners on the bars you’re talking about?”

Another commenter warned that things could have turned out worse, saying that Soho was once “the red light district and the ‘sexertainment’ area, full of sex shops, mysterious doors with ‘Model Up’ signs and seedy basement bars with huge bouncers who would be the ‘persuading’ unsuspecting gamblers to pay for the £200 bottle of ‘champagne’ they never ordered before they were allowed to leave the premises.’

And someone tried to give advice to the unsuspecting students by suggesting other locations in London they might like.

They added: ‘I mean, the great entertainment you’ve provided us and the fact that you’re playing a good sport here justifies real help.

‘Yes, Soho has traditionally been a gay area and has become touristy. Still a great place to hang out no matter your age.’
