Subway trains collide in Manhattan, causing derailment, MTA says

Two trains collided near the 96th Street subway station in Manhattan on Thursday afternoon, causing one of them to derail, authorities said.

The northbound Train 1 was carrying passengers when it collided with another train around 3 p.m., officials said.

It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured. It was also not clear which train derailed and what caused the crash.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority confirmed in a social media post that a train had derailed near 96th Street, and service would be suspended “while emergency crews assist passengers.”

This is a developing story and will be updated.
