Analysis | As Biden ends his first year amid many challenges, is there a second act ahead?

As for both the economy and the pandemic, Biden must hope there will be a gradual improvement early this summer that voters are starting to feel. For months this has been the mantra of government officials: it has to get better and of course it will. But nothing the government can say will convince people who are feeling bad, about the pandemic or the economy, not to feel bad. As Democratic strategist David Axelrod said, “You can’t force people to feel better.”
