Android 15 may bring a new device diagnostics feature for smartphones
Android 15 beta 3 update was rolled out on Tuesday, introducing several new features for Android smartphones. According to a report, one of the new features in the update is a Device Diagnostics option in the settings that will allow users to run tests on their handsets to check for potential issues with the internal components. The option is said to even offer evaluation capabilities using a different device, making it easier for owners to diagnose their smartphones without having to visit a repair center.
New Diagnostics Menu in Android 15
Android Authority, in collaboration with tipster Mishaal Rahman, reported about the new Device Diagnostics feature in the latest Android beta update. According to the report, it is under the Repair mode option in the device settings. It is said to offer two options: Component Health And Evaluation mode.
The habits Component Health option, users can run various diagnostics including a display test and a touch test. This allows them to swipe their finger across the display and see where the touch input is registered. It also allows them to check the battery health with information such as battery status, date of manufacture, date of first use and cycle count, according to the report. Users can also check the status of the data storage chip and the page will let them know the remaining life of the chip.
On the other hand, the Evaluation mode reportedly allows users to use another smartphone to perform an in-depth assessment. They can generate a QR code on the device to be assessed and scan it with their trusted handset, the report suggests. It would then run a series of tests on the smartphone and generate a report detailing any potential issues.
According to the report, some tests are being conducted in Evaluation mode may require internet access on the device. The Device Diagnostics menu was reportedly discovered after “fiddling” with the Android build on a Google Pixel smartphone. At this time, the Android 15 beta 3 update is said to be available only for Pixel 6 and later models.
