Android 15 will be available soon on Google Pixel and other smartphones
Android 15 was finally released on Tuesday after months of beta testing, Android announced in a blog post . The source code has also been made available on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), allowing developers to create custom variants of the operating system (OS) suitable for their devices and port them. The company also confirmed that Android 15 will be available in the coming weeks, starting with its own Google Pixel smartphones. The development comes months after it was reported that the operating system had reached “platform stability.”

In the coming weeks, Android 15 will also be available to download on supported Google Pixel smartphones, which is expected to include the latest Pixel 9 series. Additionally, eligible devices from other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) including Samsung, Honor, iQOO, Lenovo, Motorola, Nothing, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Sharp, Sony, Tecno, Vivo, and Xiaomi will also receive the update in the coming months.
According to the platform, the latest OS comes with new ways to further tune the app experience, allowing developers to improve the performance of an app to run on any Android release. This includes APIs for ApplicationStartInfo, PdfRenderer, OpenJDK, and SQLite. Additionally, the Android 15 release also brings Matrix44 and other canvas drawing capabilities, allowing developers to manipulate the canvas in 3D, in addition to enabling complex shapes by intersecting the current shader or a difference of the current shader.
It also improves internationalization and typography, thanks to additions like the creation of new font families and improved language alignment. The update also includes camera and media improvements, allowing the handset to adjust audio loudness, control HDR headroom, and offer better low-light boost.
For users, the Android 15 release brings ways to save favorite split-screen app combinations, Talkback support for braille displays, OS-level support for archiving and unarchiving apps, single sign-on using passcodes, and a private space where users can store their personal data.
