AMBALA: Former Home Minister of Haryana Anil Vij challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to contest the state assembly against him from Ambala chair.
“If Rahul Gandhi considers himself so popular, then let him contest the assembly elections against me in Ambala, then he will realise his popularity,” Anil Vij said. Challenging Rahul, Vij added, “If the laws can be amended to allow election of the Chief Minister in the American style, then let him contest against me, then he will realise his popularity.”
Vij was responding to questions from media personnel on Monday. It is noteworthy that Rahul Gandhi said in Ahmedabad that the BJP would be defeated in Gujarat as it was in Ayodhya.
Vij noted that Rahul Gandhi got more votes in the Lok Sabha election results than before but failed. This increase in votes has made him wrongly believe that he has become a national leader and is very popular, he said.
On the incident of stampede during the satsang in Hathras, where Rahul Gandhi wrote a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath, seeking higher compensation for the families of the victims, Anil Vij said, “Our government is taking the incident very seriously. A committee has been formed for inquiry. As far as compensation is concerned, whatever is decided by the states will be implemented and it is the same for all.”
Former Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, who was once part of the Haryana government and has now split from the BJP, said that he would expose the BJP government in the next 100 days. Responding to Dushyant, Vij said, “He was with the BJP. Is it right that he reveals the truth?”
Reacting to Vij’s statement on Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader Chitra Sarwara, who had won the last election against Vij, said, “Firstly, he (Anil Vij) should ask his party (BJP) whether they want to make him the prime minister or not. It seems Anil Vij is too eager to become the prime minister. Rahul Gandhi contested the elections from two seats and won by a large margin. While his leader and the country’s prime minister won by a margin of 8 lakh votes from Varanasi in the last election (2019), this time (2024) his margin has come down to 1 lakh votes. This shows whose popularity is falling,” Chitra said.
