Annette Brennan: Man charged with murder after body found in Melbourne
A 45-year-old man has been charged with murder after a woman’s body was found at a Melbourne waste management facility.
English teacher Annette Brennan, 67, was found dead on July 3 at a landfill in Epping in Melbourne’s north, about 8km from her home in Coolaroo.
The 45-year-old, who police said was known to Ms Brennan, was arrested and questioned by detectives before being charged on Tuesday evening.
Workers at the Cooper Street dump found the teacher’s body last Wednesday while clearing green waste and alerted police.
Investigators believe Ms. Brennan was originally in a garbage bin that was collected from her Hilgay Street home on July 2.
The suspect from Coolaroo has been remanded in custody and will appear in Melbourne District Court on Wednesday.
One of Brennan’s former students, Simona Croce, told 9News that the teacher was a “beautiful, loving and kind woman.”
“She was amazing, I’m really shocked,” she added, calling her a “second mother.”

Detectives believe Ms Brennan’s body was originally found in a bin collected from her Coolaroo home (pictured), where rubbish is collected every Tuesday.
“Nobody deserves to be treated like this, absolutely no one,” she said.
A neighbour told Daily Mail Australia his community was still in shock after the suspected murder.
“We’ve never seen anything like this here. It’s just horrible,” the man said.
On Saturday, forensic investigators and uniformed officers were found at the house, which had been cordoned off with police tape, when the discovery was made public.
Detectives would like to speak to anyone who may have noticed suspicious behaviour in Coolaroo between June 23 and July 2.

The discovery of the body marks the third time in recent years that a woman’s remains have been found in a rubbish bin or landfill in Victoria.
In March, the remains of 35-year-old Chaithanya ‘Swetha’ Madhagani from Point Cook were discovered in a wheelie bin in Buckley, southwest of Geelong.
Three years ago, the remains of mother Ju ‘Kelly’ Zhang were found in a landfill in Wollert.
Ms Brennan is believed to be the 48th woman to be murdered in Australia this year.
