Jayant Patil, a senior leader of the NCP-SCP faction, introduced Ahmad’s candidacy at a press conference, describing him as a promising young leader with an activist background. “Fahad Ahmad is an educated Muslim youth who has worked across the country. People are looking for leaders like him. After discussions with the SP, he joined our party and we decided to target him from Anushakti Nagar,” Patil said.
Ahmad expressed his gratitude to both NCP chief Sharad Pawar and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav for supporting his appointment. “Sharad Pawar, a socialist leader, has asked Akhilesh Yadav to announce my name as NCP-SCP candidate. I am grateful for this opportunity,” he said. Ahmad was earlier the state president of the Samajwadi Yuvjan Sabha in Maharashtra.
Counting of votes in the Maharashtra Assembly elections began on Saturday morning with a battle between the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti coalition and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, which is hoping for a comeback. According to an election official, voting began at 8 am at all counting centers in the state.
The process started with verification and counting of postal ballots, followed by counting of EVM votes at 8:30 am. Each assembly segment will undergo at least 20 rounds of counting, the official added. The final turnout in the elections, held on November 20, was 66.05%, up from 61.1% in 2019.
