Apple brings podcasts to Windows desktops with new web app
The Apple Podcasts web app is now available to users on desktop browsers like Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Previously, the desktop experience was only available on macOS, but with this change, iPhone users can also listen to their podcasts on Windows desktops. The introduction of the Podcasts web app comes weeks after Apple rolled out the Maps web app in beta, which lets users get directions, check routes, and explore business listings from their smartphone and desktop browsers.
Apple Podcasts Web App
The Apple Podcasts web app is accessible via the URL podcasts.apple.comIt has similar functionality to the Podcasts app on the company’s devices, allowing users to discover new podcasts across genres like true crime, news and comedy, listen to them in different languages and view top charts.
The web app works on Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Firefox on Macs, PCs, and other devices. Users can sign in with their Apple ID to see what they’re currently listening to. It includes tabs like At home, To leaf through, And Top lists. The web app also has a search bar on the left panel, while play/pause and other media controls are located at the top. Users can select their region to see content relevant to their location.
The Apple Podcasts web app allows users to access their Up Next queue, list of saved shows, and the catalog of all podcasts within the web browser. It also includes any paid podcasts that the user may have subscribed to. This means that they can start listening to podcasts on their iPhone or other Apple devices and then transfer them to their Windows desktops if they want.
Users who visit the Apple Podcasts website while already having the app installed on their iPhone, iPad, or Mac will be redirected to the native app instead of the new web experience.
