Apple Could Be Planning Multiple Vision Pro Variants in the Future: Report

Apple Vision Pro was unveiled to much fanfare in June 2023. It was touted as the device that could replace both smartphones and computers while offering customizable immersive and virtual environments for digital tasks. However, with a hefty price tag of $3,499 (approximately Rs. 2,92,200) and several issues reported with the device, the mixed-reality headset allegedly failed to create the impression that the tech giant had wanted. A new report now claims that Apple is working on a multi-product strategy to boost the popularity of its headset.

Apple reportedly planning a multi-product Vision Pro strategy

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports in his latest Power On newsletter that top executives on Apple’s Vision team re-evaluated the product strategy a few months ago and decided to create a lineup with several new devices at different price points instead of a single hero product. Citing anonymous people familiar with the matter, the report stressed that the new roadmap will bring two new variants of the device and a successor to the Vision Pro.

The first Vision Pro variant that could arrive is said to be a stripped-down version of the headset with a limited set of features. The more affordable version of the product could be priced between $1,500 (roughly Rs. 1,25,300) and $2,000 (roughly Rs. 1,67,000). Gurman claims that the Cupertino-based tech giant was planning this version of the Vision Pro before the device’s unveiling last year.

According to the report, the cheaper device could be called Apple Vision and is being developed internally under the codename N107. It could launch in late 2025, but plans can always change. Currently, the biggest battle for the company is said to be to bring down the cost.

The second variant is more of a distant vision. Apple is reportedly developing augmented reality (AR) glasses that are lightweight and come in a sunglass-like shape. Not much is known about this product yet, but the sources told Gurman that the tech giant has tentatively pegged a launch date of 2027.

Finally, the second-generation Vision Pro is also in the works, according to the report. The tech giant has started development on the successor under the codename N109 and has a few upgrades planned. The Apple Vision Pro 2 will reportedly feature a faster processor and improvements to the external cameras. The company is also said to be finding ways to make the device lighter and more comfortable to use.
