Apple could launch AirPods Max 2 during its iPhone 16 event today

AirPods Max 2 are launching today at Apple’s “It’s Glowtime” event as a successor to 2020’s AirPods Max, a technology journalist has reported. The wearable device is said to offer better active noise cancellation (ANC) and adaptive audio, among other upgrades. In addition to AirPods Max 2, the Cupertino-based tech giant is also speculated to launch other products, including the iPhone 16 series and a successor to the standard AirPods.

AirPods Max 2 Data

According to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, AirPods Max 2 will be among the launches during Apple’s event. It will reportedly offer better ANC and adaptive audio than the AirPods Max. There is also speculation that Apple will also make the switch to USB Type-C, which could replace the proprietary lightning port.

However, it’s unclear whether the iPhone maker will make any design or color changes with the AirPods Max successor. Since their debut in 2020, the over-the-air headphones have only received a handful of new features via software updates. No hardware changes have been made yet.

Other Apple launches (expected)

According to Gurman, other products in Apple’s AirPods lineup will also be getting refreshes. This could include additions to the base AirPods, with a new low-end AirPods 4 reportedly launching. This would be in line with market metrics, which suggest Apple’s AirPods will lead the category with 32 percent of sales in 2023.

AirPods Pro (2nd generation), Apple’s flagship true wireless stereo (TWS) device, however, will not get an update until next year, the journalist said. In 2025, Apple may refresh the overall case design and that of the individual earbuds. There may also be upgrades regarding audio quality.

The iPhone 16 series is expected to be the highlight of the show, with the Pro models showing off features powered by Apple Intelligence — the company’s suite of artificial intelligence (AI) features for its devices including the iPhone, iPad and Mac.
