Apple delays the launch of these Apple Intelligence features in Europe

Apple is delaying the launch of three new artificial intelligence features as the company must comply with groundbreaking European Union technical rules to ensure that competing products and services can work with Apple’s devices, the US technology company said on Friday.

Apple underscored its AI efforts earlier this month with a series of new features and software enhancements for its iPhone and other devices in a bid to boost flagging sales.

Apple Intelligence, which uses AI to generate text, images and other content on command, is said to be coming to iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPad and Mac with the M1 chip and later. iPhone Mirroring on macOS Sequoia will allow the phone’s screen to be viewed and interacted with on Mac computers.

The company said on Friday that three features — Phone Mirroring, improvements to SharePlay Screen Sharing and Apple Intelligence — will not be available for EU users this year due to regulatory uncertainties arising from the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA).

“We are particularly concerned that the DMA’s interoperability requirements may require us to compromise the integrity of our products in ways that jeopardize user privacy and data security,” Apple said in an email.

“We are committed to working with the European Commission to find a solution that will allow us to deliver these features to our EU customers without compromising their security.”
