Apple Intelligence availability delayed until after iOS 18 launch
Apple Intelligence is expected to be a long-awaited addition to the current slew of new features and upgrades coming to iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia this fall. The Cupertino tech giant has promised a slew of useful new features and integrations that will be available both at launch and in the months following the aforementioned updates (which are reportedly coming in September). The AI integrations baked deep into the software will bring a slew of additional features for users who currently own Apple’s latest-generation Silicon devices. However, it now appears that Apple will have to delay the release of Apple Intelligence features entirely until a later date.
a report Bloomberg reports that Apple will delay the release of the long-awaited Apple Intelligence AI integrations across all of its operating systems that were supposed to come with the company in some form.
Apple made it clear during its announcement at WWDC 2024 that not all features would be available at the launch of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. These major updates will be released for supported devices in September of this year.
At that time Apple was clarified that only users with their device language set to US English would be able to use Apple Intelligence. While many features were expected with the updates mentioned above, Apple also stated that “Some features, software platforms, and additional languages will arrive over the next year.” without giving a timeline.
The Bloomberg report (which somewhat corroborates an earlier report on the matter) now states that Apple Intelligence is not expected to be ready in time for the public release of the new software updates expected to arrive on supported devices this fall. This suggests that iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia could arrive with everything promised at WWDC 2024, just without Apple Intelligence.
The report’s author, Mark Gurman, claims that Apple plans to introduce its AI features and integrations in the next update (iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1), which it plans to release in October. This is indeed just a month away from the public release date. Beta software for the features released in this successive update will reportedly be available to developers this week as part of the ongoing beta release cycle.
Gurman even suggests that many Apple Intelligence-related features would be pushed into next year as well, and that some of these will help sell the next wave of iPhone 16 devices. Apple’s short list of Apple Intelligence-supported devices will require either an A17 Pro processor (only available on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max) or an M-series chip for its iPad, MacBook, and Mac computer devices.
Even without the new AI integrations, Apple’s latest software updates still bring plenty of new features for users. These are said to include a more customizable and personalized home screen with new theming options for app icons, a massive update to Control Center, a completely redesigned photo library, the ability to send messages via satellite connectivity, and much more.
