Apple Intelligence available in German and more languages next year
Apple has announced that it is expanding language support for Apple Intelligence, its suite of artificial intelligence (AI) features for iPhone and other devices. The newly added languages will roll out to users next year and include German and Italian, as well as two new versions of English (for various regions). While the AI suite has been available with the iOS 18 developer beta for a while, it wasn’t bundled with the update that debuted publicly on September 16.
Apple Intelligence features will be available on iPhone and other devices next month with the iOS 18.1 update.
More languages added to Apple Intelligence
In a newsroom after After the rollout of the iOS 18 update, Apple announced the expansion of languages in its AI suite. From 2025, it will be available in English (India), English (Singapore), German, Italian, Portuguese, Vietnamese and “others”.
Apple Intelligence initially debuted in U.S. English, and the iPhone maker then revealed that it would also gain support for localized English in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom in December. It will also be available in Chinese, French, Japanese and Spanish next year.
Despite the announcement of the expansion, the AI suite is not currently available on iPhone and other Apple devices. The Cupertino-based tech giant says it will roll out with the iOS 18.1 update next month. However, only a handful of features, such as writing tools, Clean Up tool and web page summarization, will be available initially. Other additions such as Image Playground and an AI-powered Siri will be introduced later next year.
Apple Intelligence also won’t be available to iPhone and other Apple device users in China and the European Union (EU), the company says. The entire iPhone 16 lineup is compatible with the AI suite, alongside last year’s iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
