Apple introduces new beta updates for iOS 18 with these features
Apple rolled out new iOS 18.1 developer and public updates for the iPhone on Monday. With the new updates, the Cupertino-based tech giant brings new toggles in the Control Center, changes to notification views, support for sleep apnea detection, and the ability to share Apple Music songs directly to social media platforms. Notably, this development comes just days after Apple released iOS 18.0.1 – the first major stable update since the operating system (OS) was released last month.
iOS 18.1 developer beta 6, public beta 3 updates
According to for Apple, the iOS 18 Developer Beta 6 update introduces two new dedicated switches for the Control Center: AirDrop and Satellite. Before the update, these options were only available in the Connectivity window, but they can now be placed as standalone toggles in Control Center. There are also new options for Measure and Level.
In addition, the update also brings a small change to the notification overviews, a feature supported by Apple Intelligence. It now shows the number of notifications received next to the stack on the iPhone’s lock screen. Additionally, Apple Music users can now share songs directly to TikTok from the app.
One of the more notable additions in the beta update is sleep apnea detection, which Apple previewed last month at the launch of the Watch Series 10. It records and informs the user of any breathing disorders that could be considered moderate or severe sleep apnea and which may require further action. These alerts can be toggled in the Health app.
Apple has also rolled out natural language search in the App Store and there’s a new splash screen that lets users know how it works. It now supports using descriptive app tags while searching for easier app finding.
Both iOS 18.1 Developer Beta 6 and Public Beta 3 updates are compatible with all models that received the iOS 18 update last month.
