If you get impatiently waiting Apple To release his long promised AI upgrade for Siri, well, Apple might agree. There have been reports that Apple talks Openi And let an anthropic let the next generation of Siri provide them.
This would be really surprising, given how close Apple usually retains its technical development. If AI plays such a big role as Apple has implied that this will be in the future, this could be the basis for a completely different company.

I want this not to happen because I think Apple is not able to build something great, but because I have been living with Siri for more than ten years, and at the moment it feels like an old dictaphone compared to communicating with today’s AI chatbots.

You can ask her to set timers, perhaps to control your lights, but be careful how you speak or how conversation you will be if you want it to still perform your requests. Although Apple is famous to take the time to get it right (except the Apple Maps Fiasco), the rest of the world is not waiting. Google puts Gemini in everything while Microsoft Has chatgpt in the office. Even Meta has Meta AI chat available on Instagram. Siri is still not where you are going if you have some follow -up questions.

Sometimes the smart thing is to stop fiddling with your own blueprint and just leasing the engine. And these engine options are both pretty powerful. The GPT-4O of OpenAi can continue flowing conversations, understand the tone and juggle the complex context. The Claude of Anthropic is capable of the same way, albeit with a reputation for more caution and focus on safety problems, something that Apple reportedly likes. Both companies are at the top of the field. Both would immediately give Siri a huge IQ boost.
Of course there are considerations. Apple likes control. Letting someone else provide Siri means giving up that control a bit. What happens when OpenAI changes the price model? What if an anthropic is fun AmazonTheir big investor? What if there is a data breach?
These are valid worries. But Apple has already shown that it can integrate external AI in a way that keeps user data private. Their recent rollout from Apple Intelligence uses something that is called private cloud compute, which processes your data on Apple’s own secure servers. Even if they use chatgpt for certain functions, you must register and your requests are not stored.

Apple could still develop its own AI models behind the scenes. It can roll them out when they are ready, while Siri is now given a much needed upgrade. But for most people it doesn’t matter who the AI brain has built, only that it works. If Siri can hold a conversation and respond in different ways to formulate something, that would be a big step. If most people ask Siri to make a reservation in a restaurant and it happens without any stumbles, they will not say: “Wait, is this answer generated by Anthropic or OpenAi?” They will just accept that it worked and continues.
So yes, let Siri collaborate with a working AI model. All these iPhones can use the IQ boost. I don’t need Siri at all to be unique Apple or unique. I just need to be useful.
