Apple now offers 45 days to renew your AppleCare Plus subscription
AppleCare Plus has saved my life more than once. The plan is like an insurance policy for your tech, covering most Apple device repairs or replacements during the covered period. This month, Apple extended the period during which customers can renew their AppleCare Plus coverage after it expires, changing the time from 30 to 45 days after the original plan expires. The change is listed at Apple’s websiteas previously reported by MacRumors.
An Apple spokesperson confirmed the change.
Last year, I wrote about how grateful I was for AppleCare Plus when my young daughter dropped my phone on concrete at a wedding in Arizona. Our devices are becoming increasingly important, but they’re not unbreakable, and they can be expensive to replace. So while I hate having to buy extra care plans or warranties for most products — didn’t I just pay you a ton of money? — AppleCare Plus seems worth it.
Apple’s blog post states that the new period applies to customers in Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the US.
If your device plan is for an iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch, you may be able to purchase new coverage that renews monthly or annually. For Macs, you must opt for annual coverage.
Not sure when your AppleCare Plus coverage expires? Apple says you can go to Institutions > General > About > CoverageI tried this on my iPhone and while there was no Coverage menu, directly below the serial number of my device was AppleCare+ and noted an expiration date. You can also check your plan and find out if you can buy the new coverage by going to mysupport.apple.com.
