Apple releases Safari Technology Preview 208 with these bug fixes
Apple released Safari Technology Preview 208 for macOS on Thursday. It’s the latest update to the experimental version of Safari on macOS for developers, which introduces emerging web technologies first for testing purposes before rolling them out publicly in the company’s web browser. According to Apple, Safari Technology Preview 208 provides fixes for issues related to CSS, Javascript, Rendering, Web API, and WebRTC, among other system improvements.
Safari Technology Preview 208: What’s New
In his edition notesApple says Safari Technology Preview 208 is available for devices running macOS Sonoma and macOS Sequoia. It fixes an issue related to the appearance of the scroll bar when the color scheme is changed. The update also fixes a WebRTC issue related to voice search where camera or microphone permissions are not asked again, and ensures that the browser retains them in navigation instances of the same origin.
Previous versions of Safari Technology Preview were reported to mishandle source map processing. Apple’s latest update to the browser fixes these issues, according to the changelog. It also includes a fix for an issue that prevented the format from being applied to generated content.
In addition to bug fixes, Apple says Safari Technology Preview 208 offers new features such as support for Iterator Helpers, implementation of relaxed laneselect SIMD instructions, support for unless frame URL to content blockers, and attr() fallback support.
Notably, Safari Technology Preview does not require users to have an Apple Developer account. It can run alongside the standard Safari browser on devices running macOS. The 208 can be downloaded via the software update option by navigating to the System preferences on Macs.
The latest update builds on the rollout of Safari Technology Preview 207 released earlier this month and provides bug fixes for loading, networking, web extensions, and web inspector, among other system performance improvements.
