Apple skips hardware announcements at WWDC 2024

Apple is not expected to make any hardware announcements at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024, according to a report. The developer event is expected to kick off on June 10, and is expected to showcase the next version of iOS, iPadOS and other Apple software. However, a new report suggests that it may be software-only, with no further announcements expected regarding the rumored next-generation Apple TV.

No hardware at WWDC 2024

In his power on newsletterBloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggested that the Cupertino tech giant is not planning any hardware unveilings at its developers conference.

“There is no hardware scheduled to be announced at WWDC unless Apple unexpectedly previews a new device that will launch later (to be clear, I don’t expect that to happen),” Gurman said. The Apple analyst also shut down rumors about the next-generation Apple TV, which was previously rumored to arrive in the first half of 2024.

Interestingly, Gurman had previously shared information about a new Apple TV with a faster processor and a cheaper price tag, which was predicted to be shown off at the developer conference. However, the analyst now says that its launch is “not imminent.”

What to expect?

WWDC 2024 is expected to feature showcases covering the operating systems of several Apple devices, including the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Rumors suggest that the iPhone’s next major update – iOS 18 – could benefit from the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI).

Siri, Apple’s voice assistant, is expected to get major upgrades, including the ability to ask follow-up questions without having to repeat information. A recent report also suggested that Apple has struck a deal with OpenAI to lend its own AI technology, including its conversational chatbot ChatGPT.

Gurman also reported that iOS 18 could bring AI-powered custom emojis outside of the iPhone’s existing emoji library. Additionally, it could also bring the ability to customize the screen’s layout, allowing users to arrange icons more freely.

However, Apple has followed its strategy of keeping everything under wraps until announcements are made during the keynote at its event. Therefore, we will have to wait until WWDC 2024 kicks off to get a glimpse of everything Apple has in store for users.
