Apple Watch Series 10: Hands-On
Apple just announced the Apple Watch Series 10 and I had a quick look at it after today’s event. The first thing you’ll notice about this watch is that it has a large display. It comes in two sizes. As you can see, this is the smaller size and this is the larger size. Apple says that there’s 30% more screen real estate compared to previous watches. And you can tell just by looking at it. Apple even says the display is larger than the Apple Watch. Here’s what photos look like on the larger display. What text looks like Apple says that you can see more lines of text, which seems to be true so far but I’ll really need to spend more time with it before I can really tell for sure, but it’s also thinner and lighter and that’s what I think really makes this watch appealing, is that you get that big display on your wrist, but it doesn’t feel bulky. And I think it’s going to be an interesting option for those who might be eyeing the Ultra because they want that bigger display. But they don’t feel like they need everything that comes with the ultra. So they don’t want to spend that high of a price on it. Just from what I’ve seen in Apple’s demo room, you can really see the difference, especially compared to the Apple Watch series nine. Part of how Apple got the series is mostly. So this new rear component now has the antenna integrated into it? That reduces one of the layers. Besides the fact that you just have that bigger display on your wrist, I think the red is going to be really useful for those who want to wear their watch as a sleep tracker. You know, if you’re wearing it at night, you want something that’s lightweight and comfortable. And I think these changes go a long way to making it more attractive in that sense and that’s important because Apple also has more competition in the space than ever before. With smart rings becoming more popular for those who really just want to be able to track their sleep and want something that’s not intrusive to wear, that may be more attractive than the smart watch. So I think it’s interesting that Apple is making these optimizations at a time when it’s competing with even lighter sleep trackers. Apple is also adding sleep apnea detection to the watch. This follows the direction that they’ve been going in terms of adding new health features to the watch. It’s not necessarily surprising because we’re starting to see other wearables integrate this kind of functionality, with Samsung, for example, announcing detection for its own Galaxy watches as well. The way that works is that the watch is going to be looking for a new metric called respiratory disturbances. And it’s going to analyze all of that over time and let you know if it’s detecting any potential signs of sleep apnea. But the Apple Watch Series 10 has a water temperature sensor and a gauge, so if you’re into water sports, you can use that. And again, this is another way that I think Apple is bridging the gap between its flagship smartwatch and the Apple Watch, because some of these features, like the larger screen and, you know, water temperature and things like that, were things that were previously exclusive to the ultra. I had hoped that since Apple brought the action button to the entry-level iPhone 16, that they would do the same for the Apple Watch, but we didn’t see that this time around. But overall, this really feels like a step forward. I think the difference will be more noticeable if you’re upgrading from an older Apple Watch. But of course, we’ll know more once we’ve had a chance to test it. Thanks for watching, and until next time.
