Apple’s 18.8-inch folding is reportedly still on its way for a launch of 2027 and I hope it is a MacBook instead of an iPad

- A well-known Leaker has said that Apple’s 18.8-inch foldable may still be income in 2027
- However, Amazon also has a ‘comparable’ large foldable in the pipeline
- With Huawei who recently broadcasts a foldable laptop, Apple can feel that he is lagging behind rivals – and we still don’t even know the exact nature of his device
Apple’s rumors large folding device – that can be one MacBook That is full screen and not a physical keyboard, or a huge iPad tablet is again appearing on the grapevine with a statement that it could be here in 2027. Amazon can beat Apple We have been told to the shelves here.
When WCCTech notedRenowned Apple Leaker Ming-Chi Kuo posted on X to let us know that Apple’s 18.8-inch foldable is still set to go into mass production in the end of 2027 or 2028 (a period of time he mentioned earlier, and I will return later on that point).
Apple’s competitors in the large folding device market may not be limited to Huawei. My research indicates that Amazon also develops a similar product internally, which has not yet officially started. If the development progresses as planned, this is expected to participate …May 20, 2025
This comment came afterwards Huawei unveiled his Matebook Fold -Laptop on Computex 2025 Earlier this week, that an 18-inch device is, so very similar in size with the theoretical product of Apple here. (I have to note that both this and the rumors are Apple Foldable 18 to 19-inch when they unfolded completely, so that is the total size of the device).
Kuo also noted that Amazon is developing a “similar product” that should not be officially made, but it may be due to the production lines at the end of 2026, or perhaps 2027 (add many herbs with all this).
Analysis: stay behind at rivals?
The hint that is falling here is that Apple falls behind the pacemakers in the gigantic folding device arena, where the Amazon timetable apparently is a year prior to Apple. Although having said that, the Amazon device that makes his debut at the end of next year for something that is not even officially underway, a fairly fast road through development.
The most important question is of course that Will Apple produces an 18.8-inch foldable MacBook or iPad? (Incidentally, if a foldable laptop seems like a strange term – and it is, in view of the fact that all notebooks are folding – it refers to a folding screen, instead of chassis. This is a notebook that has no keyboard and instead uses a virtual keyboard that is displayed on one half of the screen).
This is where things become a bit strange, because rumors have suggested that Apple’s folding device can be a laptop or tablet. Kuo compares it with Amazon’s folding – which is certainly a fire tablet – seems to suggest that it is a huge iPad. But then a direct comparison is also made with the foldable laptop of Huawei. Moreover, the leaker uses the neutral term ‘device’ instead of a hint of mentioning a laptop or tablet.
What that suggests is that Apple spends concepts on both sides of the fence, tablet and laptop, and still has not made the decision of which operating system, macOS or iPados, and will be more useful: a macbook with a folding screen (and virtual keyboard), or an iPad that can fill a gigantic representation.
Personally, I think that the idea of MacBook is the leader (and rumors about Apple working on a notebook with a virtual keyboard has been around for years). Although more innovative and striking, the riskier step, admitted, is in terms of getting Mac fans to accept the ditch of a physical keyboard in favor of a screen-based effort. It should be a very good virtual keyboard, that’s for sure. A large iPad would be a safer road to walk if you look at these ideas in that light.
What is also interesting is that Kuo has not changed the time frame of the release for this 18.8-inch foldable since then Speaking of mid -2024It can be read when Apple is on its way with its development schedule here. Or Kuo has just heard nothing else, especially with regard to that decision to make the hardware a laptop or tablet.
All in all, that is a bit of a concern, but if this large folding device really comes from Apple, we would have to receive Stevere tips soon enough. And it is certainly true that plans of rival laptop (or tablet) makers will help to stimulate the thinking processes of Apple and the realization of this product, or in any case I would imagine that.
