Apple’s iPhone 16 Glowtime event: What to expect
It’s Glow Time Apple has sent out invites to its next big iPhone reveal event and it’s happening on Monday, September 9th, streaming from Apple Park headquarters at 10am Pacific 1pm Eastern. But the funny thing about iPhone events is there’s so much more to be announced than just new iPhones. This is Apple’s biggest event of the year. So we’re probably going to see a new design on the Apple Watch. And this is also when people think we’re going to see new Air Pods and will Tim Cook give us one more thing. Well, here’s what to expect on September 9th. I’m Bridget Carey, and this is a bonus episode of one more thing. There are always clues hidden in Apple event invites, and this multicolored Apple aura is 100% a hint at the new Apple Intelligence version of Siri coming to the next-generation iPhones, with the assistant glowing around school borders. In other words, when AI is involved, things get colorful, and the color palette looks like the WW DC invite that introduced the new AI features. Now, Apple usually opens online pre-orders for the new iPhone on the Friday following the event. So pre-orders might start on Lucky Friday the 13th and then the iPhone will be in stores and on sidewalks on Friday the 20th. As usual, we’re expecting four flavors of the new iPhone, the 16 and 16 Plus and then the more powerful 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. Apple leaker Sonny Dixon posted these photos over on X, where the 16 and 16 Plus could come in these shades, a bright blue, a sea green, and a soft pink, along with the usual white and black Plus. Note how the cameras are stacked vertically in this new design instead of diagonally like before and this alignment has likely been changed so that when you flip it horizontally you can presumably shoot 3D video for the Vision Pro. And what about colors for the high-end Pro models? Earlier this year, Apple analyst Ming Chi Ko said that the blue Titanium of the iPhone Pro is expected to be replaced with a new pink model. Could we finally be getting a pink Pro iPhone? Well, I don’t know anymore, same leaker as before Sonny Dixon. He didn’t show a pink Pro photo and said he posted a photo of this brown model, a desert Titanium if you will, I wouldn’t do it, but nothing is official. So we’ll see, it looks like the big change is a new capture button on the outside. The iPhone 16 is reportedly going to get a brand new button on the right side for taking photos and it could be an interesting type of button that allows you to do different things depending on how you tap it. Maybe it’ll just position the photo and focus if you put a little pressure on it with your finger instead of pressing it all the way down. And that’s now been reported by a few outlets. But I do think Apple is going to talk a lot about how great it is to upgrade with its new AI and what you can do with the camera and how much zoom you get and all those new models that are something to look forward to. Apple’s other products could steal the headlines from the iPhone. The Apple Watch series 10 is expected and it will get the Roman numeral X like the iPhone 10 Bloomberg reporter Mark Eman reports that it will be thinner and have a bigger display and that new design could mean the bands will connect in a different way. So your old band may be outdated, but it’s been 10 years since Apple introduced the Watch to the world. So you’d think Apple would want to do something special for version 10 with this watch and also throw in some new big health monitoring features. Well, Bloomberg has suggested that the watch could tell you if your blood pressure is high but not actually give you exact blood pressure readings and maybe the watch could help detect sleep apnea. Apple has been working on a lot of health features, but it’s hard to say which ones are ready to launch in this model. I would expect Apple to talk a lot about how great it is to sleep with your Apple Watch on. Even though a lot of people charge it while they sleep. And what about the ultra? Well, I don’t know if there will be many changes. It might look the same on the outside. And what about the cheaper Apple Watch? Se three? Well, Bloomberg reported that they might have a hard plastic instead of aluminum in a future version. If that happens this year, I imagine Apple wants to see this as a product that parents want to give to their kids. Apple is also expected to give some love to the airpods lineup. According to Bloomberg, we could see a few refreshed models. There could be a new low-end and mid-tier version of the earbuds and Apple could put noise cancellation features in these cheaper models. Now, the upgrade that I think people would like the most is the rumored case could have a speaker to play a sound, so you can ping the speaker if you can’t find where you left it. Keep your ears open for Apple to talk about how an upgrade to the airpods pro could have a hearing aid mode that could help people with hearing loss but it’s not so clear that we’re getting new airpods max, those over ear headsets, these first launched in 2020, they cost around $550 but they never got an update and people have been waiting for the sequel. I mean Apple has to replace the light with USB C at some point. Right. It’ll be interesting to see if AI steals the show or maybe we’ll hear what tricks these new products can do. Thanks to AI software and I’m always crossing my fingers that an update to Siri means home pods get a taste of an upgrade. Could it still be a thing? It’s doubtful. I think Apple’s biggest priority right now is showing people why this year’s iPhone 16 is worth the upgrade in a time where people just don’t need to upgrade their phones as often. We’ll be covering the event with reporters in Cupertino. So make sure you subscribe and stay tuned and watch our live show on the big day. It’s hosted by you. Really, let me know what’s most important to you, write in the comments below what you think is important in the next big iPhone launch and we can talk about it in my next one more thing.
