Apple’s latest patent refers to an all-glass MacBook with a virtual keyboard
According to a newly granted patent, Apple may be developing a new MacBook with an all-glass display. The alleged device may replace the hardware-based keyboard with an on-screen keyboard, similar to the Asus Zenbook Duo OLED. It is also rumored to include a shake module that would generate low-frequency audio output. It is notable that this is not the first time such an Apple device has been mentioned. Reports that this alleged Macbook is in development have surfaced in recent years, and this latest patent only strengthens the claim that its development could be a possibility.
Apple’s patent for an all-glass MacBook
A patent promised by the US Patent and Trademark Office (via PatentlyApple) reveals that Apple may develop a new type of electronic device that provides text input functionality through the user interface when operated. If not, it would also have other functions, similar to other surfaces of the case. This component is speculated to be a virtual keyboard and trackpad on the alleged MacBook.
It is also said that the particular case is configured to protect the internal components of the alleged device and to provide an aesthetic appearance. However, it is not a mechanism built into an opening of the said device. The icons of the ports would be mirrored on the case so the user could connect them.
In addition to an all-glass design, the alleged MacBook would also be equipped with a “shaker module”. The patent document suggests it could generate controlled vibrations via low-frequency output.
The alleged shaking module can be attached to various surfaces of the device within a limited height and can potentially emulate low-frequency sounds when used in devices that do not have the space to install special components.
However, it is crucial to note that not all patented devices reach the final production stage. So it’s currently unclear whether Apple’s alleged MacBook with an all-glass design will debut in the future.
