Apple’s WWDC 2025 has a lot to offer – but forget Apple Intelligence, what about the games?

Apple‘s Worldwide Developer Conference – AKA WWDC – stands for us again, and the 2025 edition looks like it could rings a number of major changes for Apple. The rumor mill says that large redesigns are planned for iOS on the iPhone, as well as iPados, macOS, Watchos for the Apple WatchAnd even TVOS for the Apple TV streaming box. Many people will also hope for news about Apple Intelligence (although I would not keep a breath if I were you).
But in the words of the immortal herbal girls – I will tell you what I want, what I really want, really – and those are more games for the Mac. I am that rare orphan of orphans known as the Mac Gamer. It is a small, selected group, mainly consisting of me and Whoopi GoldbergBut it always grows and after decades of completely ignoring games on the Mac, it seems that Apple is finally showing some interest.
Play
Apple has never loved games. John Carmack, one of the makers of Doom And Cut At ID software that once said Co-founder of Apple Steve Jobs “Didn’t think much about games”And the attitude of Jobs meant that Apple effectively ignored gaming on the Mac for decades (“I never took it personally,” said Carmack).
That state of affairs did not really change to WWDC in 2023. After recovering the headlines with the debut of the Vision Pro headset, Apple quietly released a new software tool with the name Game Porting Toolkit (GPT) that is specially designed to help developers Mac versions of their PC games.
This seemed to be a real change in Apple’s attitude towards games, and the launch of GPT helped to bring a few AAA titles to Mac for the first time, including Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Control, Death Stranding, And several Resident Evil Games. But the fact remains that most A-list PC games are never released on the Mac, so here is my wish list for the Mac Games scene on WWDC in 2025.
More powerful hardware
Even The best MacBooks and Macs His often mocked because it is lacking in the power to play games with modern 3D-graphics-in fact, Macs could not even deal with Ray tracing until Apple introduced its M3 processors about 18 months ago.
Even now, many Mac games still require very expensive Mac models from the range-range to work at high graphic settings. There are a few Pretty good gaming pcs available for less than £ 1000/$ 1000And Apple has to bring real gaming power to more Mac models to create a larger audience for new Mac games.
In the defense of Apple, however, it cannot be denied that the Best gaming -Laptops Can be quite expensive – and many people need a single lightweight system for work and gaming, no desktop drain powerhouse machine that cannot be more than two hours from a wall output. So the potential is there; Apple just has to get up.
Mac operating system (Aka macOS) relies on a piece of Apple software called Metal to process 3D graphics in games. PC games, on the other hand, are generally dependent on Microsoft‘s DirectX graphic software instead, and converting – or’ porting ‘ – directx games to run on Macs is a huge technical challenge for game developers.
That is where the gaming discount toolkit enters, because it is specifically designed to help with this conversion process. Apple introduced GPT 2.0 to WWDC in 2024, so releasing a new update on this year’s WWDC would reconfirm the dedication of Apple to Gaming. Apple can also easily buy code weighers, the developer of the open-source crossover software on which GPT is partially based (Codeweavers.com). The Crossover team has an enormous experience to run Windows games on Macs, and that could help Apple to smooth out the path on the Mac for many PC-based games developers.
Open the App Store
At present, many Mac games are only available via Apple’s own Mac App Store. Even if you’ve already bought Control: Ultimate Edition on steam or the Epic Then you will notice that you still have to buy the Mac version separately in the Mac App Store – so you actually pay twice for a game that you already have. Games in the Mac App Store are also usually more expensive than on Steam or Epic – of which the PC version of Control: Ultimate Edition is currently for sale at a bargain.
This also applies to many other Mac games, so Apple really needs to give developers more freedom to sell their Mac games outside the Mac App Store. Unfortunately, Apple’s long -term legal battle with Epic on sales Fortnite In the App Store suggests that this is quite unlikely. Games like however Baldur’s Gate 3 And Hades 2 Allow yourself to buy the game once on Steam and then download Mac or PC versions, so that is something that I would like to see of more games in the future.
Renewal Apple Arcade
Apple earns billions of dollars from its subscription services and Apple Arcade was intended to offer an Apple alternative for gaming services such as Microsoft’s Game Pass for Xbox and PC. But while Game Pass Tempts players with newly released hit titles such as Oblivion remastered And Clair Obscur: Expedition 33Apple Arcade is full of aging mobile games such as Angry birds which were originally designed for the iPhone or iPad.
The selection of MAC games is seriously overwhelming, so Apple has to collaborate with game developers to bring a number of heavyweight A-list titles to Apple Arcade. Mac users know that Apple often makes spectacular announcements on WWDC about coming games for the Mac, but it must continue that commitment for the other 51 weeks of the year if it really wants the Mac to be taken seriously as a gaming platform. Zigazig AH!
