Argentina Adds Ethereum to Buenos Aires High School Curriculum
Argentina appears to be doubling down on initiatives to provide the next generation of workers with knowledge and training in emerging technology. In a step in this direction, Argentine authorities have decided to make the study of Ethereum part of the high school curriculum. For now, this syllabus change has been implemented in high schools in Buenos Aires. Whether this initiative will reach other Argentine cities is still unclear.
The Buenos Aires local Ministry of Education has joined forces with the ETH Kipu Foundation to facilitate the initiative, which aims to introduce high school students to the Ethereum blockchain in their existing classrooms.
Ethereum is an environmentally friendly proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain, that is, recommended as the most commercialized blockchain in the world. It was introduced in 2013 and supports a range of decentralized applications, smart contracts, and layer-2 networks.
“By integrating Ethereum education into high schools, we are not only teaching students about technology, but also giving them the tools to shape the future. This initiative opens up new career opportunities for young people and places Argentina at the forefront of the global blockchain movement,” official announcement Regarding the development, the ETH Kipu founding team was quoted as saying:
For the students in Buenos Aires, this initiative will involve gaining hands-on experience in blockchain development and its use cases. According to authorities there, blockchain is one of the fastest growing sectors internationally.
The statement further noted that the initiative will offer an online Solidity course to teach students aged 18 and over how to create decentralized applications (dApps) built on blockchain networks.
In a broader perspective, the government wants to investigate whether these types of initiatives can integrate blockchain applications into the local economy.
“This initiative comes at a time when Argentina is becoming a global hub for Ethereum adoption, with local projects making significant contributions to the global blockchain ecosystem. By nurturing a new generation of blockchain-savvy students, Argentina is securing a place at the forefront of technological innovation,” the announcement read.
India’s non-governmental Web3 advisory body, the Bharat Web3 Association (BWA), has praised Argentina’s move.
“The example of Argentina is a good one to follow. Schools should take proactive steps to introduce such courses in India. BWA is happy to help,” said Dilip Chenoy, Chairman of BWA.
In India, crypto players have come up with similar initiatives to spread technical knowledge about blockchain among Indian students.
Last year, crypto investment firm Mudrex launched the “Satoshi School” and CoinDCX launched a Web3 exchange to spark interest in blockchain among budding developers.
