Armed police have descended on a quiet market town in Leeds after reports of a man with a gun.

Officers have warned neighbors to stay indoors as they try to de-escalate the standoff, which has been going on for more than six hours.

Armed officers, armored police and ambulance units are on the scene in Stanningley.

Police were initially called to a domestic incident at a house on the sleepy street, but quickly withdrew after a man was apparently in possession of a weapon at the address.

A cordon has been set up and various emergency services, including police negotiators, are on site to bring the incident to a safe end.

Police have confirmed the man is the only person in the house and there is no danger to the wider community.

Witnesses at the scene said they saw a man hanging from an upstairs window of the house and drones flying overhead.

This was said by a resident who lives nearby Leeds Live: ‘They just said it was an incident, they don’t want to say anything else.’

Another added: ‘I’ve never seen anything like it.
