NEW DELHI: AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday approached the Delhi High Court challenging a court’s order taking cognizance of a complaint filed by the Enforcement Directorate against him in the money laundering case linked to the alleged fraud in the excise policy.
The plea will likely appear on the agenda on Thursday.
Kejriwal requested the court to set aside an order of the trial court on the ground that the special judge had taken cognizance of the charge as there was no sanction whatsoever for his prosecution when he was the Chief Minister of Delhi, a civil servant, then the crime would have been committed. involved.
On November 12, the court sought ED’s response to Kejriwal’s other plea challenging the summons sent to him following the agency’s complaint in the money laundering case. The court refused to suspend the trial court’s proceedings at this stage of the criminal case.
Kejriwal was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court in the money laundering case on July 12. He was granted bail by the Supreme Court in the CBI case on September 13.
The Delhi government introduced the excise policy on November 17, 2021 and scrapped it at the end of September 2022 amid allegations of corruption.
The money laundering case stems from a CBI FIR filed after Delhi LG VK Saxena recommended a probe into the alleged irregularities in the implementation of the excise policy.
